Union faculty salaries top region
in national college survey

Jackson, Tenn. – Faculty salaries at ºÚÁÏÂÛ̳ are the highest of any private institution in West Tennessee outside Memphis, according to a national survey published in the April 14 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Union's average salary for full professors was $52,200, while the average for associate professors was $44,600. Assistant professors at Union received an average salary of $39,400, while instructors averaged $38,100.

"The heart of a university is its faculty, and salaries are a good indication of the level of commitment an institution has to its faculty," explains Union President David S. Dockery. "While Christian colleges like Union rarely have the resources to match faculty salaries with large state-supported and research universities, we are pleased that our salaries rank in the upper level of comparable institutions, both in our region and nationally. That helps us in attracting the best and brightest faculty to Union."

Among West Tennessee institutions, other ranked private colleges included Freed-Hardeman (50.6, 46.1, 36.0, and 30.1), Lambuth (37.0, 33.5, 32.6, --), Lane (--, 29.8, 30.0, 23.8), and Bethel (34.5, 31.1, 31.3, --). Vanderbilt was the highest-ranked private institution in Tennessee, with full professors averaging $99,800, while Rhodes came in second at $73,200.
