Union's "Fiddler on the Roof" will
inspire and entertain all ages

Michael Penny will be playing Tevye in Union's production of "Fiddler on the Roof" Nov. 2-5 at the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center.
Jackson, Tenn.October 18, 2000 – ºÚÁÏÂÛ̳ will present the Broadway musical "Fiddler on the Roof," Nov. 2-5 at the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center. A joint production of Union's departments of music and communication arts, the story is based on a Jewish family in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century, who struggle with following traditions or following love.

Playing the lead character, Tevye, is Michael Penny, associate professor of music and also the show's musical director. Wayne Johnson, associate professor of speech and theatre, will direct the show and said he chose "Fiddler" after suggestions were made from last fall's opera and theatre classes. A full orchestra will accompany the singers and will be conducted by David McClune, professor of music.

Other cast members include students Becky Roode as Golde, Megan Hakes as Tzeitel, Joy Spurlin as Hodel, Lauren Vernon as Chava, Robert Johnson as Motel, Graham Hillard as Perchik and Jarod Rogers as Lazar Wolfe.

Show times are 8:00 p.m. Nov. 2-4, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Nov. 5. Admission is $10 for the general public and $7 for Union University students, faculty and staff. For more information or to inquire about purchasing tickets, contact the Union's box office at (901) 661-5105.
