ServiceMaster’s Pollard headlines conference on business and faith

JACKSON, Tenn.April 12, 2006 — Bill Pollard, the former chief executive officer of ServiceMaster, will be the guest speaker for this year’s “Business Through the Eyes of Faith” conference April 26 at ̳.

The fourth annual conference is designed to encourage and equip members of the West Tennessee business community to integrate their Christian faith into their workplaces. This year’s topic is “Leadership in Turbulent Times.”

Pollard joined ServiceMaster in 1977 and served twice as its chief executive officer. He has also been the company’s board chairman and is now an adviser.

During his leadership, ServiceMaster was recognized by Fortune magazine as top service company among the Fortune 500 and also was included in its list of its most admired companies. ServiceMaster also was identified as a “star of the future” by The Wall Street Journal and recognized by the Financial Times as one of the most respected companies in the world.

ServiceMaster owns brands such as TruGreen ChemLawn, Terminix, Rescue Rooter and others.

Pollard is the author of the best selling book, “The Soul of the Firm,” and has also contributed to other books and magazines. In 2004 he received the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Business Ethics at the University of Notre Dame.

Pollard is a graduate of Wheaton College and the Northwestern University School of Law. He previously served as an attorney and as a faculty member and vice president at Wheaton College.

A native of Chicago, Pollard and his wife Judy have been married for more than 45 years. They have four adult children and 14 grandchildren.

The conference begins at 11:30 a.m. in ̳’s Coburn Dining Room and will conclude at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $15 and includes lunch.

It is sponsored by Union’s McAfee School of Business Administration and its Center for Business and Economic Development, AmSouth Bank, Richard’s Aviation and Williams Steel.
