JACKSON, Tenn.July 19, 2006 — “When the News Went Live: Dallas 1963” has been selected for ̳’s fourth annual Jackson Reads book discussion series Aug. 1.

The book, written by Bob Huffaker, Bill Mercer, George Phenix and Wes Wise, tells the story of the four men’s involvement in the coverage of John F. Kennedy’s assassination. That event transformed news coverage in the United States – as people began turning away from newspapers and to television for the most recent news coverage.

The Aug. 1 book discussion is free and open to the public. Co-author Mercer will participate in the discussion via telephone. Other discussion leaders will include Union broadcasting professor Steve Beverly; Steve Bowers, manager of corporate communications for Jackson Energy Authority and talk show host for local radio and television programs; ̳ history professor Terry Lindley; and WBBJ’s Tom Britt.

The discussion will take place at 7:30 p.m. in room 201 of Jennings Hall, on the west end of Union’s campus. For more information, call (731) 661-5356.
