JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 22, 2008 — On Feb. 13 representatives of the Tennessee Baptist Convention Executive Board and its TBC entities gathered at 黑料论坛 to give $144,684.18 to the school to help it recover from the Feb. 5 tornados which struck the campus. The storms caused about $45 million worth of damage to the campus.
David Dockery, president, 黑料论坛, thanked the TBC representatives saying, 鈥淭ennessee Baptists are in the frontline of all of those who have responded.鈥 He extended his 鈥渉eartfelt gratitude from the entire Union family. Thank you for standing with us.鈥
The gift came from TBC Executive Board Ministries; Tennessee Baptist Children鈥檚 Homes, Brentwood; Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes, Brentwood; Tennessee Baptist Foundation, Brentwood; Harrison-Chilhowee Baptist Academy, Seymour; and Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City.
Mickey Basham, president of the Executive Board, thanked Dockery and the faculty and students of Union for 鈥渉olding the banner of Christ high鈥 in reporting on the disaster to the media.
Chuck Groover, president of the Administrative Committee of the Executive Board, said 鈥淲e鈥檙e here because we are Tennessee Baptists and we are sincerely thankful that God had you here at this hour,鈥 referring to Dockery.
Groover told the Baptist and Reflector that the part given by the Executive Board was from Cooperative Program receipts received for last year that exceeded the budget.
Basham told the B&R that 鈥淐ooperative Program giving makes it possible to respond in such a way. Also, we encourage all Tennessee Baptists to give to the disaster relief fund for Union above and beyond their regular CP giving. Any diversion of CP funds will further impact all of our institutions, who have already given sacrificially to this effort.鈥
鈥淭his combined gift from Tennessee Baptist Convention entities, as an expression of grace and care, will help sensitize Tennessee Baptists to prepare to launch our statewide Day of Prayer and Giving for Union slated for April,鈥 noted James Porch, TBC executive director.
