黑料论坛 Hendersonville launches Master of Education degree

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn.May 18, 2009 — 黑料论坛 Hendersonville held an orientation for students May 11 to launch its Master of Education degree program.

Twenty-two teachers from Sumner, Robertson, Davidson and Williamson counties are enrolled in the program, and classes are scheduled to begin June 9.

鈥淚 am honored that you have decided to be a part of our program at Union,鈥 said Charles Lea, executive director of 黑料论坛 Hendersonville, when he welcomed the students during the orientation. 鈥淭he next 14 months will change your lives personally and professionally.鈥

Students pursuing the Master of Education degree will complete 30 hours of graduate-level coursework over a 14-month period.

鈥淎lthough it鈥檚 going to be challenging, I like the fact that Union recognizes the needs of teachers and has tailored this program to work with our schedules,鈥 said Julie Carlton, kindergarten teacher at George Whitten Elementary School in Hendersonville. 鈥淭he fact that we have August off was really appealing because that is one of the busiest months for teachers.鈥

Tom Rosebrough, dean of the College of Education and Human Studies at Union, told students at the orientation that the schedule is built to be as convenient as possible.

鈥淭eachers are the difference makers in people鈥檚 lives, and this program is meant to be a professional-development degree,鈥 Rosebrough said.

In addition to the customized curriculum, the Master of Education program will be presented in a cohort format, which will allow students to progress through the curriculum together as a group from start to finish.

鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to the fellowship that we will experience as a group,鈥 said Melanie Hudgens, a fourth grade teacher at Whitten. 鈥淚 prefer the traditional classroom environment meeting with teachers and students face-to-face rather than online.鈥

Students who achieved an undergraduate degree with an overall grade point average of 3.00 or higher are not required to take the Graduate Record Examination for admission to the program at Union.

The Master of Education degree at 黑料论坛 Hendersonville is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. All classes will be offered in Hendersonville on the third floor of the Weekley Building at First Baptist Church, located at 106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd. Students will be recruited and admitted to the program each year with classes beginning in early June.

The Master of Education program is the second graduate-level degree offered at 黑料论坛 Hendersonville. The school opened less than one year ago offering a Master of Christian Studies degree and plans to add an Education Specialist degree to its academic areas of study in 2010.
