JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 18, 2004 — A crowded house filled the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 18 for a special chapel at 黑料论坛. Ginny Owens - an award-winning song writer and performer - made a stop at the university as a part of her current tour to promote her album "Beautiful," to be released April 6.
"I feel like I've spent the last 100 years working on this last project," said Owens about her new album. "I'm glad that it's finally coming out now."
Owens, who grew up in Jackson, Miss., became blind at the age of two after a congenital eye disease left her visually impaired. By the age of five, Owens was playing the piano and by the age of seven, she had written her first song.
Although Owens' dream was to become a music teacher, she was soon discovered and signed a record deal with Rocketown Records in 1998 instead. Even though she gave up her goal of teaching, Owens believes becoming a musician was a good trade off.
"Nothing compares to traveling the country and playing in chapel at 10 in the morning," Owens said jokingly to the college crowd.
After almost two years without a release, "Beautiful" is a work that has been highly anticipated. Several fans and admirers were in attendance and were glad to see Owens on stage again.
"She is so awesome," said junior Josh Howerton, a Biblical studies major from Franklin, TN. "I just think that it is so amazing to see that someone with a disability can succeed like she has. Only God can do something like that."
