JACKSON, Tenn. — April 15, 2005 — Fifty 黑料论坛 students will benefit from a large scholarship gift by the Hammons Foundation, according to Union President David S. Dockery.
The Hammons Foundation, started by former Union trustee Ed Hammons, has awarded the university with $125,500 for scholarships for students attending Union in 2005-2006.
That gift brings the total amount donated by Hammons and the foundation to $1,931,296 since 1996. The funds have been used for a variety of purposes, including scholarships, construction of Hammons Hall and White Hall, pianos in the Hartley Recital Hall and support of the Church Matching Endowment.
鈥淗ow delighted and grateful we are that our students will benefit from the vision of Dr. Ed Hammons and the Hammons Foundation,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥満诹下厶 is a different institution because of Dr. Hammons鈥 generosity. The foundation carries on his legacy and support for Christian higher education, and we are exceptionally thankful.鈥
Hammons, of Forrest City, Ark., was a longtime supporter of 黑料论坛 who died in 1998. His parents, Otis Parnell and Evalyn Pierce Hammons, were 1928 graduates of Union. In 1997 the O.P. and Evalyn Hammons Chair of Pre-Medical Studies was installed at the university in their honor.
The Hammons Foundation was established in 1996 to support West Tennessee and East Arkansas students seeking to attend Christian colleges.
