The Torch wins CSPA鈥檚 Silver Crown Award

JACKSON, Tenn.April 2, 2009 — The Torch, 黑料论坛鈥檚 student literary and art magazine, received a Silver Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in this year鈥檚 awards competition.

Ten college magazines, three newspapers, four online newspapers and three yearbooks received Gold Crown Awards while 17 other college publications received the second highest CSPA award, known as the Silver Crown. Gold Crowns have been presented annually since 1982, and Silver Crowns have been given since 1984.

鈥淭he awards we have won in the past have been from a review by a single judge,鈥 said English professor Bobby Rogers, the faculty adviser for The Torch. 鈥淭his award is selected by a panel of experts and is the Columbia Scholastic Press Association鈥檚 highest level of recognition. Finalists are invited to New York to attend the awards banquet. Union continues to produce students who win national recognition.鈥

The Torch is an annual magazine published under the direction of student editors and a faculty adviser. Its contents consist of student writings and art works selected by a group of student editors from presentations in the normal course of classwork, and from those submitted directly to the editors.
